Microclean Plus is a highly effective, water-dilutable cleaner and degreaser designed for use on a wide range of non-porous surfaces.
It is particularly suited for engine rooms, ancillary equipment rooms, and is highly effective as a machine parts and filter cleaner.
This advanced product features a micro-emulsion formulation that blends bio-based surfactants with natural plant extracts. This combination results in a cleaner that not only provides excellent detergency but also has a pseudo-solvent action, making it highly water-dilutable.
Microclean Plus is fully biodegradable, environmentally friendly, and non-corrosive to the skin. It also does not require a UN number classification.
Additionally, its formulation actively reduces the re-deposition of oils during cleaning. Once diluted or left in water (such as bilge or wastewater), the emulsion breaks down, allowing oils to separate cleanly without leaving behind an emulsion layer. Grey water problem.

Overview
The problem was first discovered when the grey water tank was full.
I tried to transfer the waste water from the to the holding tank, prior to the Hamann system.
The transfer pump was running dry as there was no flow of water from the lines. This must have meant there was a blockage somewhere in the lines and or system.
After removing the inspection hatch of the holding tank, I found a large amount of floating solidified fat and grease bricks. They must have come loose from the base of the tank.
I hired a company to come in and sanitise the tank and remove as much as possible. The tank still had small remains of grease in the baffle section that were un reachable.
Once the tank had been refilled and back in operation, there were occasional times where the transfer pump would run, but run dry again. After further inspection there were some more grease bricks that had loosened up and made their way to the suction point of the tank.
After clearing these remaining bricks, I realised that I needed something to contain this situation. I got in touch with Brendan from Noordzee Engineering Services to see if he can help.
Product and Usage
The product recommended was GNC Marine's GWP Super.
I had never heard of the product before and I was keen to try it.
The product came in a very easy to use method. It has a disposable bag containing the product. I put the product in to a container. Filled it with hot water and allowed the bag to disintegrate. I left it for five minutes and then poured it down the galley sink. The flow pipe runs directly to the tank (no grease traps).
The process was straight forward, easy to use and effective. I repeated the process once per week using one bag per time.
After doing this process for a month I started to notice there was a vast improvement in the flow of the water transfer and cleanliness.
Outcome
After using the product for a month, there was a large difference in not just the water itself, but the cleanliness of the lines. It was apparent that everything was working well.
The product had worked so well that it got deep into the back of the tank and inside the baffle. This did however leave me with a problem.
Due to the fact, the tank had not been sufficiently cleaned and had areas where grease had got caught, the product released hidden grease bricks in the back of the tank and broke them down into small particles. These particles were now floating around the tank and then causing them sit in the way of the suction point.
After spending two whole days manually picking out these grease particles from the tank, I fully washed the tank out using a degreasing product.
Now knowing that tank was cleaned properly I returned to using the product on a weekly basis.
Conclusion
We have now been using the product for a little over four months now and it has performed fantastically. The power of it and the way it works makes the whole system run smoother, more effective, and cleaner.
I believe that the product helps the tank, lines, and pumps as well as the water. Since using the product, I have had a massive reduction in Hamann alarms, no problems with the suction points on the tank and less issues with water transfer.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who needs a reliable and effective means of grey water treatment.
The way dosing and treatment schedules operate on this yacht, I have found it to be an excellent addition to my weekly operations schedule.
